The classic image of bass fishing is lazing in a rowboat in the middle of a lake on a sunny afternoon. However, some smart bass enthusiasts have discovered that the best way to get great bass during the summertime months is by fishing in the dead of night. There are a lot of reasons why night fishing for bass is a great idea, so if you haven’t tried evening fishing yet, give it a shot and be prepared to reel in some winners. Summer is the most popular season for fishing, which has both positive and negative aspects for sportsmen. Because bait and equipment are in so much demand during the warmer months of the year, these goods are plentiful and easy to find as retailers stock up in order to get the best bait and tackle to their customers. However, as fishing fans flock to lakes and streams all over the country, all too often the peace and quiet of the sport becomes quite elusive as multiple sportsmen jockey for position on the same water. The summertime crowds can take away a lot of the fun of bass fishing. If you choose to fish at odd times of the night, it is likely that you will never run into the problem of overcrowding. Because only a small percentage of bass fishermen hit the water in the dark, you should have no trouble finding a pond or a lake offering plenty of solitude and a supply of fish that is all yours for the taking.

Another reason why bass fishing at night during the summer can prove to be a kind of fisherman’s jackpot has to do with the habits of the bass themselves. Bass prefer to stay cool, so they tend to head for the deepest waters that they can find during the intense heat of midday and afternoon.

Fishing bait boats have been around in the angling scene for a number of years now. While they are not an essential part of every anglers equipment, their use is becoming quite widespread in some areas of the sport. They not only enable you to place baits accurately at extreme range, but are often of great help when fishing at close range but near to awkward water features, that might otherwise be impossible to fish.

You should always check the local regulations to conform that bait boats are allowed on the fishery you are fishing. Some owners and clubs do not permit the use of baitboats. You also need to be mindful of the wildlife in the area, and be courteous to other anglers. Just because you can place a bait at extreme range does not mean that you have a right to encroach on other anglers swims.

What does the angling technics bait boat have to offer?
In a swim that can easily be fished conventionally with a method rig or swimfeeder, the baitboat enables us to drop both the groundbait and the hookbait at exactly the same spot time after time. You won’t be attracting the fish away from your swim with the piles of groundbait you leave by missed casts. How many times do you not quite get the cast right and refill the feeder to try again? Every time you do that, you leave bait away from your target and hence attract feeding fish away from where you want them.

You are often able to use much lighter tackle if you don’t have the need to cast all you groundbait along with your hookbait. You may not need such heavy terminal tackle in order to achieve casting distance, and there is no need to use such a heavy rod, and line. You will be able to fish at extreme range, whilst still using very light tackle. That can give you a great advantage.
If your baitboat is well designed, you will also create less distubance in the swim.

Bait boats have been the subject of much discussion. The angling technics microcat bait boat seems to have a large following of enthusiastic anglers. There is a body of anglers who believe that their use should be completely banned from our waters, amd that they are only needed by unskilled anglers. There will always be anglers who will misuse baitboats by using them to place baits into totally unacceptable positions from which there is no chance of retieving a hooked fish without potential damage (and trauma) to the fish. I have seen anglers adopting a brute force technique, where in order to land a fish they have to apply maximum pressure on the fish to get wuickly clear of snags. brute force is never a technique that should be used deliberately in our sport. This bullying technique does not leave much chance to return a fish to the water undamaged.

I believe that the debate will continue for a while until the angling community realises that like all new innovations, bait boats are probably here to stay. The task is for us all to agree on what is and is not acceptable use of the technology. When bait boats are used in a sensible manner, they are a useful asset to the sport.

Frustrating as it is, carp fishing is awesome. Carp are really good at sucking in and blowing out suspicious baits. It’s such an excitement to see the whole action in a fraction of a second as you hang on for dear life while the reel is trembling with a loud noise. Carp happily devour on the surface as long as you keep the pellets, biscuits, chic peas, bread, and re-hydrated corn coming in, and these are inexpensive baits as well. Just attach them to the hooks, most preferably the bread. Have the biscuits softened by dipping it in the water for about 2 minutes, then, place them in a sealed sandwich bag for about an hour. Since different brands have different textures, just experiment to know which is firm enough to cast. Another way to hook baits is super gluing the pellet into the shank.

Once they get into feeding, let them feel comfortable around the bait. This gives more opportunity for the fisherman since they begin to not feel picky. This tactic can be useful for zig rigs. As soon as they’re feeding, cast the bait but make sure not to drop the bait directly onto the feeding carp. Cast away from the feeding area then slowly draw it in position. While the bait is till hanging, keep the food coming in so as to keep the carp from going away.

How to Set-Up?

Use a hair rig to increase your chance of catching. As carp taste food first, if they don’t like the taste, they won’t come near it.

You may also use a Spider Line, 50 lbs test, then use a leader material that fits the situation.

Thread the bait on the baiting needle and hook the hair loop. You may also use foam dipped in a flavor as this enhances the attractiveness of the bait.

Also make a baiting needle by just straightening a long shank hook. Slide the bait on the shank, then slide the bait from the needle onto the hair.

Using a float is also an advantage because it adds weight for further distancing and the location is easily identified.

The Best Fishing Line

Click Here To See A Secret Weapon For Crappie Fishing My Friend Discovered In 2004

After the super braids were intruded in the 1990’s Many people in the fishing industry thought they would take over the fishing line industry. These super thin lines, made of the same space age materials used to make bullet proof vests, had virtually no stretch, so they provided excellent sensitivity and powerful hook sets. You would think these lines would of changed the industry forever but that is not the case. They certainly have their place, but the mast majority of anglers still rely on monofilament for most of their fishing. We have info here you can use to select the best fishing line for spinning reels and the best fishing line for baitcasters.

There seems to be no substitute for monofilament line because it still remains the only line type that is near invisible in water, which is a major advantage when you target skidish game fish.And the stretch factor everyone complained about turns out not to be so bad after all. It provides an extra cushion in fighting fish, and your rod won’t snap on the hookset, as it sometimes does with superlines.{The information we want to provide you will help you select the right line for the type of fishing you want to do. We want to provide you with some detail information that you can use to help you make a decision on what the best fishing line for spinning reels and the best fishing line for baitcasters.}

There some very important considerations you need to look at, such as the limpness, stretch and color. A very limp line, such as triline XL which is considered to be a extra limp line,. works well for casting, because the line doesn’t form stiff coils that rub on your guides. A line with a harder finish, like Triline XT which is classified as a extra tough line, is a better choice when fishing in weeds or rocks that cause scuffing. Most experienced anglers use clear or green mono when fishing clear water. They will consistently pick a fluorescent line if the are fishing at night or in dingy discolored waters. So if you were going to go bass fishing in heavy weed cover probably the best fishing line for baitcasters would be the triline XT. If you plan to do some castfishing from the bank, you will need to make some very long casts to get where the fish are so the best fishing line for spinning reels would be the triline XL because this line is very limp which benifts the fisherman who needs that long cast.

Now superlines do have there place because they are made of a material called spectra which is almost 4 times as strong as monofilament line when you compare dia to dia. These lines have revolutionized deep jigging and trolling because of their superb sensitivity and very little stretch.Mono has to much stretch for solid hook sets in deep water, and is difficult to get down while trolling because its large diameter creates so much water resistance. If you plan on jigging any reefs that are in deep water then the best fishing line for spinning reels would be a superline. If are interested in trolling and the best line for baitcasters, which are similar to trolling reels would be a superline choice.

We hope the information in this article about best fishing line for spinning reels. Have a great day and the the best of luck to you on your next fishing trip

Article 110 Seasonal Changes and crappie How Do they relate?

The crappies behavior will change as the seasons change. crappie will be called names such as calico bass, speckled bass, speckled perch, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass and papermouth. The The papermouth will suspend more in late summer and through the winter and will stay close to sructure during the long spring period into the early summer period. You can catch crappie with a variety of crappie artificial baits such as crappie jigs, or you can use crappie baits like crappie jigs tipped with soft plastic grubs and wax worms. Crappie live baits like crappie minnows, shiners, small gizzard shad, maggots, panfish leeches, and crayfish will work well too. The clearer the water is the more likely that The crappie at greater depths no mater what seasonal period it is.

Under the ice, The white perch will suspend 5 to 10 feet from the bottom and will feed primarily on zooplakton,or they feed on crappie minnows, small crayfish and other small crustations. The The speckled perch will also feed on thread fin shad that are feeding on plankton, and small gizzard shad populations in habitats that they are available. To catch crappie under the ice you can use nice shinny crappie ice fishing jigs tipped with live crappie minnows. You will want to use a portable fish finder to locate the speckled bass , then cut at least three hole in a triangle and set 3 different crappie ice fishing set ups set at different depths. Once you start catching crappie in one of the ice holes reset your other lines to the same depth. In the south where there is no ice follow the shad schools or target suspended crappie to catch fish. You can use conventional crappie fishing tackle such as crappie jigs and crappie live bait here.

At the end of the winter period crappie will start their migration to the shallows or staging areas until ice out or the water temperature rises above 42 degrees. Some of the shallow areas will be black bottom bays, closed end channels, and old reed beds. These areas tend to warm faster in the early spring period. Typically fish will stay and will stay shallows until after the crappie spawn and into early summer. Where they will migrate to main lake, or main reservoir locations. In rivers there may not be much of a migration because crappie do not like current.

The papermouth migration right after ice out will be to find crappie food and will not be related to the spawing grounds. In natural lakes the calico bass will stage near shallow structure during the early spring or pre-spawn period. The speckled perch will be feeding aggressively and just about any crappie fishing bait such as crappie jigs or crappie bait fish such as crappie minnows or shiners will work. Some popular crappie artificial baits include popular crappie fishing jigs such as the Flu Flu, Chubby Jig, Puddle Jumper, Zetabait Wobbly Eye Jig, Custom Jigs & Spin Shrimpo, Blue Fox Foxee Jig, and the Lindy – Little Joe Timber Jig. For added excitement you can tip these artificial crappie baits with wax worms, maggots, crappie minnows, shiners, redworms, live nymphs,or crayfish. To ad some flash for even more attraction add a safety pin spinner to your crappie jig, or switch up your crappie bait to one to a popular crappie spinner bait such as a Blakemore Road Runner, Tad’s Cricket Spin,Terminator Tiny T, and the Bomber Mini – Whacker.

Article 109 weeds and crappie How Do they relate?

Crappie are not built for speed or power and they like to stay close to shallow water for there is plenty of structure and where most of their crappie food is located. The food chain will be the thickest where plankton is the thickest, which normally is located in large flats and bays on the wind ward side. the crappie species has been given odd names thought out the years such as calico bass, speckled bass, speckled perch, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass and papermouth. You can use crappie baits like crappie jigs tipped with soft plastic grubs and wax worms. Crappie live baits like crappie minnows, shiners, small gizzard shad, maggots, panfish leeches, and crayfish will work well too.

The white perch will relate to weeds in different ways. When you are crappie fishing in lakes and reservoirs that have large areas of weedy vegetation, look for suspended crappies any where from 5 to 15ft of the bottom in 25 to 30 feet of water. The The speckled perch will suspend off a drop off lip in the bottom contour during the middle of the day and when there is direct sunlight they will suspend there too.The strawberry bass will also suspend at drop off points during cold front conditions when the fish are in a negative feeding pattern. To entice the strawberry bass which are in a neutral or negative feeding mood you can use popular crappie fishing jigs such as the Flu Flu, Chubby Jig, Puddle Jumper, Zetabait Wobbly Eye Jig, Custom Jigs & Spin Shrimpo, Blue Fox Foxee Jig, and the Lindy – Little Joe Timber Jig tipped with crappie live baits such as wax worms, maggots, crappie minnows, shiners, redworms, live nymphs, or crayfish. To catch crappie you may want to verticle jig your crappie spinner baits to a vertical or horizontal depth that is eye level to thepapermouth.

The calico bass will many times suspend at the bottom edge of beds at the base when they are in a active feeding mood. Under favorable weather conditions there will be entire schools of pole crappie that will locate here as long as the crappie food lasts. During heavy feeding periods a regular crappie jig with a plastic grub will catch crappie. This concentration of papermouth will normally occur in the late afternoon.

Schools of crappie that were suspended along the base of weed edge lines will many times move horizontally along the weed line spending at a depth of 5 to 8 feet below the surface. This movement typically happens in the evening near sunset. Under ideal weather conditions you can sometimes see white perch coming to the surface and feeding as far as 100 feet away from the edge of the weed line. Right before night fall is a great time to catch crappie with a flyrod and a floating crappie jig. This one of the few times that speckled bass like to feed on the surface.

Article 108

Catching suspended crappie in confined open water

True open water involves vast expanses of water over 20ft feet in depth. “Confined open water” defines areas of open water adjacent or near to shallow structural elements. The crappie is a very popular game fish that young, old, and novice and experienced fisherman have given names such as calico bass, speckled bass, speckled perch, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass, and papermouth. The crappie is a suspending species of fish but not a true open water fish like the steelhead, stripper bass, or salmon. True open water fish are streamlined, and powerful and able to cover large distances in a short period of time. The speckled bass is not built for speed or power and stay near structure where most of the crappie food is located.

In lake and reservoirs where there is submerged timber lines key suspending crappie depths will be 30 to 55 ft deep. Using a slip bobber rig with a crappie jig tipped with a plastic grub and wax worm will work here. Try using weedless hooks on your crappie jigs and make sure you have enough weight to get your crappie jig down 30ft quickly. The weight of your crappie jig and a large split shot should do the trick. You can also use crappie jigging spoons tipped with crappie minnows and shiners. In stable weather there also will be suspended crappie just above the timber tops of the trees located out on the edge of the timber line.

Environmental circumstances will determine the speckled perch position on a timbered point. When weather conditions are mild and stable suspended crappie will be located high in the tree tops or they will move to shallower trees, but rarely in water less then 15ft deep. Yo can sometimes run suspended crappie artificial baits such as crappie crank baits at a specified depth and you will catch some crappie. Cold fronts, and fridgid wate or a drop in water levels will push the white perch into deeper water and into dense cove in the heart of the trees. These fish will have a negative feeding mood and will be hard to catch.

Suspended crappies in timberline areas are fun to catch once you learn where they are located at and at what depth. Just keep in mind that you can use a variety of different crappie baits such as crappie live baits like crappie minnows, gizzard shad, threadfin shad, shiners, fathead minnows, and even small crayfish to catch crappie. Or switch it up and a use a combination of artificial crappie jigs tipped with crappie live bait. Just use your imagination. 75 percent of you fishing is going to be finding the speckled bass location.

ARTICLE 112 Understanding the crappies feeding habits What Do Crappies Eat?

One of the most important key ingredients to developing a consistent crappie fishing pattern to find and catch crappie begins and ends with the golden question: What are the crappies eating? Determining what the crappie forage is and learning the habits of the crappies food chain means one thing catch crappie!

The the crappie is one of the most sought after game fish in America and they have been named odd names such as calico bass, speckled bass, speckled perch, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass, and paper mouth. The calico bass has exceptional night vision and their eyes are the biggest of any other game fish when compared to their body size. This fact gives the strawberry bass a distinct advantage over it’s crappie food such as zooplankton ,small shad, perch fry, shiners, crappie minnows, fathead minnows anywhere there is low light conditions. This is the main reason that speckled bass turn on at dawn, and sunset and feed aggressively at night. If you have ever thought of going night fishing for crappie you would make a good choice because the crappie is very active at night.

The calico bass is like many other preditors in the sense that they develop a close relationship with their prey. Once the conection is established where you find one you will find the other. Foe example if you notice that there is a new hatch of crappie minnows swimming near some weed growth you can bet there are some strawberry bass close by feeding on them. You can use this connection to your advantage when you are selecting your crappie fishing baits. Determine what the forage is the crappie crappie are feeding on at a certain location then select either your crappie artificial baits or crappie live baits to match as closely as possible. The more detail you include here the better your crappie catch will be. For example if the paper mouth are feeding on crappie minnows than an excellent crappie bait would be a crappie jig tipped with live crappie minnows or a artificial crappie jig and soft plastic that resembles a crappie minnow.

The connection between the prey and the speckled bass normally begins when three conditions occur. The number on condition that triggers the start of the connection is when there is a large population of a certain crappie forage food such as in our example crappie minnows. The number two condition is the prey are vulnerable such as when they are moving in migration or spawning. or example at night where the crappie have a distinct advantage. The number three connection is when a certain forage exsists in locations that the speckled perch are spawning.

Article number 111 Natural lake Fall Crappie Movements

As the water starts to cool in natural lakes much of the weed growth on the flats dies off. Some deep lying weeds will remain along the deep edge of weed growth along drop offs. After the weed growth dies off crappies holding in shallow flats will join crappie along drop off edges, so this is one of the locations you will want to target your crappie fishing efforts. Crappies holding in open water will also head for drop off edges. The crappies have numerous different names such as calico bass, speckled bass, speckled perch, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass, and paper mouth. Once the white perch have moved to drop off ledges normally they will continue to hold there or move to close by deeper rock cover if it is available. You can catch crappie by using crappie jigs tipped with live crappie baits such as crappie minnows, flathead minnows, shiners, and shad if they are there. Fish your crappie baits just vertical or horizontal to identified drop off edge locations or deep rock cover approximately 5 to 10 feet off bottom, speckled bass will typically hold at these depths during the late fall going into winter. In natural lakes you will find drop off edges in a variety of different crappie fishing locations. Look for edges there is remaining weed growth such as at locations inside bends in the lake. You will also find excellent drop off edges where there is combination of remaining weed growth and rock cover. Your prime crappie fishing locations to concentrate on in the fall season will be where there is remaining weed growth, and rock cover combined together and adjacent to a drop off into deeper water. You will normally find these locations along bends in the lake contour. Fall speckled perch will be normally be feeding on plankton or crappie minnows or shad that are feeding on the plankton. A good fall crappie bait would be artifical crappie baits that resemble crappie minnows or shad or Live crappie baits such as crappie minnows, small shad, shiners, and fathead minnows. You can also use small crayfish when you are fishing off the bottom in rock cover. As the remaining weed beds die off speckled perch will move to rock piles, humps, sloop points, that drop into the lake basin, and transitional points that go from a hard pan bottom to a soft mucky bottom. Concentrate your crappie fishing efforts after the weed die off to the areas just mentioned.
